Like Obama, North Carolina’s new elephant majority inherited an ugly budget. Hopefully they will dodge his “drink more to get over drinking” approach to a spending addiction.
In less than ten years Raleigh’s herd of donkeys inflated the state budget by fifty percent, Medicaid costs by three hundred percent, and education expenses by almost sixty percent. To prop up this expansion, they maximized taxes, doubled our state’s debt to forty-four billion dollars, robbed the highway fund, and sidestepped ballooning retiree healthcare and benefit liabilities.
Sincerity to the conservative mission of “managing wisely” requires the Republican majority to step over please and appease politics with the four legs of reality, reason, responsibility, and right.
