Every young person in America should be furious with the baby-boomers abysmal stewardship. Our “live now pay later” approach to governance has made us the first to hand our offspring a dimming future married to overwhelming debt. Much of this disgraceful inheritance can be traced to the “something for nothing” entitlement promises of the left and the military adventurism of the right – each in its own way a form of cultural terrorism.
The left’s enthusiasm for chumming mascots with dependency opportunities has created catastrophic liabilities. As special interests continue to steal a piece of the American Dream they have neither earned nor funded, the bill is being forwarded to our children.
Spending tomorrow’s dollars on today’s military is another amoral activity. At a time when our greatest identified threat cowers in a cave in Pakistan, America generates half the world’s military expenditures. Tomorrow’s foes will find an America made dangerously vulnerable by coffers emptied on earlier extravagance.
Though it is popular to associate militarism with conservatism, that relationship does not exist. The root of true conservatism is “conserve”, which means “to manage wisely.” Military adventurism is the antithesis of wisdom.
