The birth of the American Dream can be traced to the Declaration of Independence adopted on July 4th, 1776. The betrayal of that vision can be traced to the “declaration of dependence” adopted by Americans hooked on liberal socialism.
Life is hard and mankind has always been vulnerable to the promise of something for nothing. That’s the essence of the liberal message – in exchange for your loyalties we will give you something you did not earn by taking it from someone who did.
Once any society’s plunderers outnumber contributors, vision falls to greed and corruption. America is precipitously close to that tipping point. Recapturing our flag requires we not only celebrate the 4th, but lay a hand on preserving what it’s about.
The essence of the American Dream is liberty and opportunity partnered with personal responsibility. The essence of the liberal fantasy is freedom and rights detached from responsibility. Conservatives resist the latter as a blueprint for self-destruction.

The liberal-progressive movement is dedicated to division, deviance, and dependency. As our culture surrenders to special and selfish interests, the common interests suffer. We are in this together, and we will either thrive as a united society, or wilt as a potpourri of the self-serving.
Replacement of the rule of law with rule by law is poison to our dream. The former supports cultural prosperity by applying social standards in fair, timely, and reasoned fashion. The latter supports power by applying mandates in arbitrary, inconsistent, and manipulated fashion. The difference is crucial.
The US Constitution was designed to restrain the ravenous appetites of government. Having suffered the pretense of benevolent tyranny, the framers had a clear dedication to “small government – big people”. This generation’s politicians and socialist mascots, including donkeys and elephants more alike than different, are busy reversing that equation. We shouldn’t.
Thomas Jefferson best summed up the dangers to today’s American Dream, “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.” This gentleman and early patriots laid a sensible and courageous hand on America. The 4th offers a reminder their vision will not endure unless we do the same…
