Pausing the Mayhem... E-mail

A quick visual of fetus growth schedules dispels all pretense of abortion as just a woman thing. Pictures four weeks after conception demonstrate it’s also very much a kid thing.

We’ve been using abortion as a primary means of birth control since the Supreme Court’s 1973 pronouncement that States’ Rights didn’t count. Roe v. Wade had more to do with power than abortion.

We’ve taken full advantage of this judicial opportunity to party. So far fifty-million children have been aborted in America – a headcount similar to the death statistics of WWII. How better could anything illuminate a government free to run over states, citizens, and reason with impunity?

There are at least three levels of conservatism – social, moral, and political. Abortion taps them all.

Conservatives do not seek to control the universe. Micromanagement through government is a liberal infatuation. Social conservatives are culturists resisting behaviors demonstrably harmful to our society. Any social policy supporting the elimination of fifty-million souls merits antagonism.

Moral conservatives have an investment in promoting principles on right and wrong. Notably, most moral conservatives in America operate from a Christian value system. Contrary to liberal propaganda, America as we know it was founded, built, and subsequently sustained on those values. For moral conservatives, history, heritage, and God’s word still matter. Jeremiah 1:5 offers insight on abortion from a Christian perspective.

Political conservatives may or may not be social or moral conservatives, but they do have a unifying interest in running America as the Constitution intended. Today’s governance through judicial and political opportunism demonstrates the importance of States’ rights. Our founders believed empowered states would ultimately have more success in discerning points of wisdom on social matters than an elite few.

There are arguments in support of abortion rights. The pretense of empowering women is not one of them. Most abortions come out of relationships involving men unwilling to step up to the responsibility of cherishing a mother and a child. Abortions are mostly for men wishing to remain little boys free to treat women as toys.

NC’s new Republican majority has had the courage to gently say “enough” to the above. They successfully overrode a veto by a left-handed governor predictably dedicated to central authority over elected representation. The new constraints are anything but draconian – a 24 hour waiting period and an ultrasound image of the fetus. That pause is prudent – for fifty-million reasons plus.
