Hi - this is the candid conservative with today's candid minute...
Congressional wrangling for the high ground on the Bush tax cuts is missing the point. America's future will not be secured by extending the cuts or allowing them to expire. Democrats are correct that we should not run our government on borrowed dollars. Unfortunately they have a demonstrated willingness to do so with abandon. Republicans are right in that tax increases are an insane thing to do in the midst of a tanking economy. Unfortunately those same big dollar elephants played a major role in bankrupting our budget. The fact is neither side has credibility on this issue. The average American knows both parties are milking us to serve their special interests. That brings us to the real issue - spending. Until we make drastic cuts in our government's bureaucracy, no rational tax policy is going to work. Per usual, our Washington power brokers are jockeying for the political high ground in an effort to avoid offending their constituency. While they concentrate on burnt toast, a financial meteor is hurdling toward America...
I'm Dr. Carl Mumpower and you've just spent a minute with a candid conservative...
